Andrea Zanchetta - violinist
Andrea Zanchetta was born in Venice, Italy. Since the age of 15 he has given around two
thousands concerts, performing as a soloist and a chamber musician in Europe, Australia,
China and Japan. He began his violin studies under the guidance of his brother Stefano and
graduated from the State Conservatory of Venice under the lead of Giulio Bonzagni, with a
high distinction in violin, string quartet and chamber music performance. In that period he
won prizes in international competitions for violin and chamber music.
Zanchetta’s teachers and mentors include the world renowned violin pedagogue Zinaida Gilels, Franco Rossi, cellist of the Quartetto Italiano, pianist Eugenio Bagnoli and Henryk Szeryng. As a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician Zanchetta enjoyed an extremely busy activity, playing in many prestigious venues like the Tokyo Suntory Hall, Sala Verdi in Milan and many others. Some of these concerts have been broadcasted on radio and television channels in Europe and Japan. His repertoire is markedly broad, ranging from works of the XVII century to contemporary, with a special focus on the Italian virtuoso music of the XVIII and XIX centuries on both modern and period violin, bringing new life to over 50 different works by Vivaldi and many rare pieces by Paganini, Tartini, Geminiani and other composers.
Zanchetta has frequently appeared as a soloist with the String Orchestra Interpreti Veneziani, an Italian ensemble consisting of laureates in international competitions.
In Italy, he had the great privilege to play in concerts on a Stradivari violin, the Hembert-Milanollo (1703). His recordings as a soloist and chamber musician can be heard on various CDs recorded for the labels Rivoalto and Nuova Era.
In Hong Kong where he moved since 2007, Zanchetta has appeared as a soloist and guest concertmaster with the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, in duo with the pianist Nancy Loo and with the Hong Kong's foremost guitarist Tina Karen Lo. He has been invited to play in many radio and television interviews by the RTHK channel 4 and by TVB, in the programs "Morning Call", "Morning Brew", "Cultural Plaza" and "The Works". Apart from his artistic activity, Zanchetta is keen on teaching and many of his violin students, won prizes in local and international competitions in Italy and have been admitted to prestigious conservatories in UK and USA, like the Royal Conservatory of Music, Indiana University, to name a few. Some of his past students are playing in professional orchestra in Hong Kong, UK, and USA.
From 2009 he is in the faculty of the Hong Kong Baptist University as an artist lecturer and violin teacher, also giving masterclasses to talented students, and he has been in the jury of exams and local music competitions. From 2010 till 2013 he taught the performing course "Historical Music Performance" in the University of Hong Kong. Besides being a musician, he enjoys the beauty of Science. After graduated in 2001 from the Padua University with the title of “Doctor in Physics” he worked as a researcher for the National Council of Research (CNR) in Italy, on a research funded by the Italian Space Agency (ASI), and has published several papers on peer reviewed journals, and presented his works at important scientific conferences.
